National Society of Black Engineers

Membership in the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) provides a rewarding and exciting opportunity for students interested in engineering and science. In more than 30 years of existence, NSBE has been represented by more than 350 universities and solid programs that encourage academic excellence, personal growth, and professional development. Boys’ Latin formed a NSBE Jr. chapter in 2012 as part of the NSBE Pre-College Initiative (PCI) and seeks to expand the chapter’s reach this year. 

The Boys’ Latin NSBE Jr. chapter is designed to:
  • help students develop positive attitudes toward academic excellence 
  • stimulate enthusiasm about science, technology, engineering, and science (STEM)
  • raise cultural awareness among students 
  • connect students with college students and professional alumni members in STEM fields 
  • encourage and support parental commitment to their children's education 
  • increase the number of African American students attending and graduating from college, especially in STEM

Please return a membership application to Steve Toure (chapter president), Mr. Smith (NSBE advisor), Ms. Maloney (NSBE math team advisor) or your science teacher if you are interested in joining the Boys' Latin NSBE Jr. chapter. Membership dues are $10 for new members, are $5 for renewing members, and include a subscription to the NSBE magazine, a lapel pin, access to SAT resources online, opportunities to participate in conventions, scholarship opportunities, and connections to professional engineers.
